The river reminds us that life is in constant motion. There’ll always be obstacles to overcome, but with its powerful force, it always manages to stay in flow. It helps us to remember that going downstream is the path of least resistance, even if those obstacles seem impossible to overcome. If we look upstream, we can see the water approaching with no hesitancy on its natural path.
The river makes soothing sounds that help to regulate our nervous system and encourage our mind to stay calm. It is a tool for embodiment and deep healing. It grounds us, guides us and frees us from our suffering.
The river can be an anchor for mindfulness; each time the mind wanders, we can come back to its soothing sounds and ever changing patterns in the water which helps us to stay present and connected to Mother Earth.
The river provides a lesson for acceptance. Does the water always know what’s ahead? No, but it continues anyway. Does the river ever look back? Does it try to revisit the paths it’s already taken? Of course not, because it is always moving forward by natural order.
We can connect deeper to the river to help us to navigate the uncertainty of this life. The practice is simple: visit the river often and take notice of its intricacies. Feel gratitude for its lessons and bless its journey.
The river is you. You are the river. A body of water moving through this existence with grace and ease.
